Seeing “amendment required” on a Vietnam e-visa feels like a rejection, and it is not one. It is a request. An officer has looked at the file, found one thing that does not line up, and is asking you to fix it so the application can move forward. This page explains how to read and answer it. It sells nothing and lodges nothing for you.
Read it as an invitation, not a verdict
A refusal closes an application; an amendment request holds it open and hands the next move back to you. That distinction changes everything about how to respond. There is usually no need for a fresh application or a second government fee, because the original file is still alive and simply waiting on a correction.
The mindset that costs people time is treating the request as a failure and starting over. Starting over throws away a file that was almost through.
What is usually being asked
The great majority of amendment requests are about identity data that does not match cleanly. A given name and surname keyed in reverse sequence, or a missing middle name the passport does show, is the classic case. So is a portrait photo that does not agree with the passport, or a passport scan the system cannot read well enough.
Occasionally the request is about a field that contradicts itself or the passport, such as a number keyed with a transposed character. In every case the fix is specific and small once you know where to look.
How to answer it well
Answer precisely, and answer once. Read exactly what the request names and change that, checking it against the passport rather than against memory. Match the name to the machine-readable line at the foot of the passport photo page. If the photo is the issue, meet the technical rules rather than swapping in another casual picture that fails the same way.
Speed matters, but accuracy matters more, because the file stays paused until a correct answer arrives. A same-day correction that resolves the point cleanly is the fastest possible route through. A quick answer that repeats the original fault just restarts the same pause.
Why paying to rush this rarely helps
An amendment request is a hold on your side of the process, not a queue you are stuck behind. That is why buying speed does little here: there is nothing to overtake, only something to correct. The lever that shortens this delay is a correct response, and that is free.
If a service genuinely helps, it is by getting the correction right, not by paying a premium. A second pair of eyes on the name, the photo and the numbers is the real value on offer.
A short response checklist
- Read “amendment required” as a request to fix, not a refusal.
- Note the exact point the request names.
- Correct only that, and re-check it against the passport.
- Match the name to the passport machine-readable line.
- Answer the same day if you can, correctly the first time.
The amendment is handled through the same government channel the application used, on evisa.gov.vn, which is where the corrected file belongs.

Questions from the margin
Does "amendment required" mean my e-visa was refused?
No. It is the opposite of a refusal in spirit: an officer has reviewed the file and is asking you to correct a specific point so it can proceed, rather than declining it outright. Answered correctly and promptly, it usually leads to approval without a new application or a second fee.
What normally triggers an amendment request?
Most requests are about identity data not lining up: a name in the wrong order or missing a middle name, a mismatch between the photo and the passport, or a field that contradicts the passport. Photo and passport-scan quality problems are the other common trigger.
How fast should I respond to an amendment request?
As soon as you can, and correctly the first time. The request pauses the clock on your file until you answer, so a same-day, precise correction keeps the timeline short. A rushed answer that repeats the fault only extends the pause.
