A weekend or a public holiday is where same-day expectations meet a closed office, and the gap between the two is where people lose money. This page sets out what actually moves when Vietnam’s immigration office is shut and how to read the offers that appear at exactly that moment. It sells nothing and files nothing.

The rule that governs the weekend

Vietnam’s e-visa is decided by an office that keeps working hours, and that office is the ceiling on what any weekend service can do. A routine e-visa filed on a Saturday does not clear through the standard process until the working week resumes, because the decision-maker is not at the desk.

This is not a small print detail; it is the whole shape of the weekend. Everything else, including any rush offer, sits inside that limit.

Weekend and holiday are not the same thing

A weekend and a public holiday behave differently, and it is worth separating them.

On an ordinary weekend, some agencies advertise a rush handled through direct relationships with immigration staff who can work urgent files outside normal hours. Whether that channel is real for a given provider is a claim to check, but the possibility exists.

A national holiday is stricter. During Tet, for example, offices close for the full break and processing genuinely stops. No relationship reopens a nationwide closure, so an application filed into the holiday simply waits for reopening. The only reliable weekend-or-holiday strategy is to have filed before it began.

How to read a weekend rush offer

When an offer promises a fast weekend result, ask two plain questions. What, specifically, happens to my file, and in what hours? And what happens to the money if the promised window passes with no decision?

A provider with a real channel can answer both concretely. A provider selling the idea of speed against a closed office will answer with reassurance rather than specifics. A named, guaranteed approval time is the clearest warning, because approval is never a private party’s to guarantee.

The honest version of “urgent over the weekend”

The truthful position is narrow. If a genuine working channel exists and there are hours in which your file can actually be handled, a weekend rush can help, and it reasonably costs more. If the office is fully closed for a holiday, the honest answer is that nothing decides until it reopens, and a premium charged to “rush” that queue is charging for something that cannot be delivered.

Holding that line saves the money that panic would otherwise spend on a paused system.

A short weekend checklist

  • Assume the standard route pauses outside Vietnamese working hours.
  • Separate an ordinary weekend from a full public-holiday closure.
  • On a holiday, expect nothing to move until offices reopen.
  • Make any rush provider name what happens, in which hours, and the refund rule.
  • Distrust any guaranteed approval time; the decision is not the seller’s.

Short entries

Questions from the margin

Can I get a Vietnam e-visa approved on a Saturday or Sunday?

The standard e-visa is decided during Vietnamese working hours, so a routine application does not clear on a normal weekend. Some agencies offer a weekend rush handled through direct working relationships, but treat any specific weekend approval time as a claim to verify, not a guarantee, because the underlying decision is not theirs to make.

Do public holidays like Tet stop visa processing?

Effectively yes. During Tet and other national holidays the immigration office is closed for the full break, and e-visa processing pauses with it. Applications filed into that window wait until offices reopen, so the practical move is to file well before the holiday, not during it.

Is a weekend rush fee worth paying?

It can be, if a real channel exists and there are genuinely hours in which the file can be worked. It is not worth paying when the office is fully closed for a holiday, because no fee processes what nobody is processing. Ask what specifically happens, and by when, before you pay.
